Dr. Merrill Harris

Internal Medicine Doctor

Dr. Merrill Harris brings more than 20 years of internal medicine expertise to AIM Health. Dr. Harris is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and is board certified in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Prior to joining AIM Health, Dr. Harris worked at Providence Portland Medical Center as a hospitalist managing inpatient care for 17 years. She served as a supervisor and clinical instructor training resident physicians during inpatient medicine rotations. She also has experience in post-acute care as a medical director caring for patients in skilled nursing facilities.

Dr. Harris obtained an undergraduate degree in biology from Claremont McKenna College and obtained her medical degree from The University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine. Dr. Harris completed her residency in Internal Medicine here in Portland at Legacy Emanuel and Good Samaritan Hospitals. She has won several honors and awards including being recognized by her physician peers in Portland Monthly Magazine as a “Top Doctor” in Internal Medicine (Hospitalist) in 2013, 2019, and 2020.

Dr. Harris spent many years of her career taking care of acutely ill hospitalized patients. She recognizes the importance of timely, thorough medical care, with careful attention to preventative health and monitoring of chronic diseases to keep her patients out of the hospital and to optimize their health. She joined AIM Health because of the value AIM physicians place on the patient physician relationship. She believes that AIM’s commitment to longer appointments, smaller patient panel sizes, timely access to appointments, and patient communication support her ability to use her expertise and training as an Internist to provide the best care for her patients.

Dr. Harris is active in the community including serving for nearly a decade with The Portland Marathon as the supervising physician of the Finish Line Medical Tent. She also has spent time volunteering with the Northeast Community Child Development Center in NE Portland. She enjoys spending time with her husband and twin girls, supports the performing arts community, and indulges her green thumb growing and nurturing her indoor and outdoor plants.
